Lyric Fest - Barber Centennial

Sunday, October 24 at 3 pm
In Concert at The First Presbyterian Church Philadelphia - Directions

In just a few seasons, Lyric Fest has become the area's premier place for the shared experience of song, so the invitation to join them to celebrate West Chester native Samuel Barber's centennial came as both an honor and a welcome opportunity to make music with some old friends.  (It doesn't hurt that our conductor's doctoral dissertation was on the subject of Barber's poetry choices and their origins.)  In an evening telling Barber's biography in music, we'll hear some of the 20th century's most beloved art songs and some choral music that has quickly become part of the Western canon - beautiful, moving, intimate, Barber was a master of words which provoked profound responses in his compositional life.
